New Hawaïenne is first and foremost a neighborhood canteen: the owner herself greets and seats you. Surviving from Vietnamese canteens aimed at the working class, the restaurant aims to please everyone without blowing prices. Be prepared for a humbling experience of exceptional cuisine that will keep you coming back for more. You’ll see that the menu is well-stocked, but we recommend one dish: the loc lac. Some say it’s a godsend, others say they can eat it every day. It’s a very simple dish, consisting of tomato rice, lettuce, tomato, onion, lemon and the famous marinated beef. If you’re kind, they also serve one of the best pork broths, and it’s free. If you prefer something else, you can enjoy the pork bites, shrimp rice and all the soups, which are delicious. A bonus is the coconut juice, which completes the meal.
